If the dark circles under your eyes are noticeable even after you get an adequate amount of sleep, it might be a result of swollen eyelids. In some cases, dark circles can occur due to genetic factors, allergies or skin-related disorders, aging, excessive consumption of tobacco or alcohol and prolonged exposure to sunlight. You might also be prone to dark circle formation if you suffer from contact dermatitis (a skin infection caused by the skin coming into contact with a foreign substance, such as a watch, or a wrist band).

Causes-

Dark circles around the eyes, as well as eye bags and puffy eyelids, can be caused by a number of factors other than the intrinsic aging process. Allergies and nasal congestion, atopic dermatitis, skin pigmentation irregularities, sun exposure, smoking, and drinking alcohol and caffeinated beverages can be the cause of dark, shadowy eyes. But sometimes it’s simply a matter of genetics, and dark circles are passed down from one family member to another. Dark eye circles aren’t usually a cause for medical alarm, but they can make you look haggard and tired.

More often than not, the presence of dark circles is not a serious medical condition and can be easily treated with the help of the following procedures:

  1. In order to treat the under eye areas, you can use a serum containing soy and rice peptides, yeast protein, hyaluronic acid, and seaweed extracts.
  2. If the droopy under eye circles form as a result of the gradual loosening of the skin due to a loss of fats and collagens, you can opt for filler injections to conceal the discolored blood vessels and melanin (the component that imparts skin its color). You might have to opt for this procedure once in every six months. However, remember that it comes with significant side effects such as abnormal swelling of the affected area, bruises and itching.
  3. To get rid of under eye circles, you can opt for a procedure that combines glycolic peels (peels that help in the shedding of the affected skin and initiating the natural reduction of the dark circles), aqua jet, microcurrent (which helps in the hydration of the affected region) and assorted home ingredients. This helps to strengthen the skin around your eyes and subsequently reinvigorate the under eye region, thus keeping those dark saggy circles at bay.
  4. The dermatologist might also suggest another procedure which revitalizes the under-eye regions by means of high platelet-containing plasma. The platelets initiate collagen (the building blocks of the skin) formation that restores the lost freshness of the skin. This is a completely safe procedure as it is a natural one and is free from any known side effect.
